Hi All
After two weeks of riots with a payed by the goverment band, we decided to stay
for a month or two in Neuquen, a city that is located 12000 km from home.
We was two weeks working in common with unemployed unions and the workers of
Zanon, that had recently their "ocupation birthday" with the factory working
in their own hands.
In this dificult time we worked making and intensive (and sometimes dangerous)
coverage, but we are trying to resolve and structural problema now, and our
second step is try to resolve an structural problem, making a big teachin with
workers to teach they to make they own coverages.
We started today a work shop with 10 unemployed workers and with 9 workers of
zanon, and we'll start another one with a similar quantity tonight (we are
doing it in the same hours that they are working)
the main problems here are:
1.-they don't have any experience. They are wonderfull people that is taking a
150 million valuated factory, that is giving work to 300 families and making an
amazing work in common with unemployed and all the community, but they don't
have any skills using internet, making prints or making photo or video. We are
making an intensive work shop of 1 months or more, to work in common with
they. We are practicaly living inside the factory . The workshop that we are
doing is focused in four things.
-How to read the press and the big media. Some tips to know how they lie
-Internet: how to use internet, how to post in indymedia, how to make an online
coverage and use a computer.
-Radio: how to edit sounds. We have a 1 hour radio show waiting to be made. we
also are talking about the posibility of open a community radio in a unemployed
barrio.
-Print: how to write a press release. How to write a nice report. Some skill
about photomaking.
we are talking about make video too, if we can fix the video cameras that they
have here.
In the work shop (or teach-in, i don't know the right translation) we are
working with workers of the factory and unemployed people from the MTD, the
biggest piqueteros organization in this land.
2.-Recourses. There are a few computers in the factory that we are using to
work, but that's the only equipment that they have. Actually there is no
internet, no audio recorders, no money to make a print, etc. Today 5 young
unemployed activists come to make the workshop without eat and walking from 7
km. to be there.
That's why we are looking for support to get:
1 audio recorder
1 photo camera
2 bateries to fix a video camera
1 microphone and cables to edit audio
1 internet conection (we'll use a dialup one)
money to edit the first print publication and to pay the people cost to
go to the factory to work in the workshop.
we are talking about an amount of 500 dollars from the global founds to get
this very basic equipment. If somebody knows somebody that want to help with
more, you are welcome. We don't say to wait people coming with equipment from
another countries, because they are in a dificult situation, with strugles
coming and going every day and we are doing it very fast because one day
sometimes it's the diference between life and dead.
We also are making a few nice experiences in Buenos Aires and Rosario, moving
our spaces to ocuped banks and houses. This one, in Neuquen, for the people
working here, it's the wonderfull way to be the "voice of the people without
voice". We are not really teaching, we are learning to talk with the words of
the people of our land.
A fine deadline, i think, it's October 27, because we have, in first time, a
dificult strugle here (see the reports) and in second term, because the
duration of the work shop is 1 months, and we need maby 2 weeks to teach people
how to use the tools.
thanks a lot
sebastian
ps: you can see lot of coverage from the indy team that is working here ;
