This situation once again illustrates the need for the IMC network to have
a series of regional face-to-face meetings to hammer out processes and
politics.
I agree that IMCs should have alot of local autonomy to make decisions,
but I'm really worried that the IMC network doesn't even have some basic
minimal guidelines that IMCs should be following. Many of you on the
process list are aware of problems at various IMCs concerning due process.
IMCs have also had many disputes over politics. Getting grants impacts
those conflicts. IMCs need money to operate, but when they are getting
money from granters, there is a tendency towards conservative liberalism
and professionalization. In other words, the radicals are marginalized and
a Pacifica/NPR mentality takes hold.
It doesn't have to be this way, but what can we do to fund the IMC network
without losing our soul?
