[Imc-finance] ford: longer timeframe and irc proposal

hey all,

the discussion around the ford grant has been intense and very valuable. It is
a pity it has been so rushed and that we as a network dont yet have a clear
process to talk about things like this. Here in seattle we have been talking
about it non stop for the past couple of days, with people from many different
imc's and viewpoints, and it has raised a wide range of critical issues which
each require much time and space to discuss in any meaningful way. There is
strong and valuable thinking on both sides of the debate, (and there arent only
two sides either) and i wish we had a forum to hear all of this out.

The original deadline was September 15, we were told. By chance, that deadline
was extended to september 17 which is tomorrow, still not enough time to have a
thorough discussion.

But it is also important to note that tomorrow's deadline is only part 3 of a 5
part process. Part 4 deadline is at the end of the month when UC IMC hands in
its 501c3 paperwork.

Part 5 is when we get offered the grant and decide whether or not to take it.
Taht is the real deadline we are facing, and its not for a while.

So I propose that we carve out a time in the next two weeks to hear all the
pro's and big cons to taking the money and try to do this somewhat right, and
come to a some form of consensus that we can all feel good about.

How about an irc meeting of imc-finance?
Saturday or Sunday?
Maybe imc-commwork can help us set a time based on what has worked for past irc
meetings?
