I think I see what you're saying. However, all IMCs that I've been in
contact with do local fundraising for their local IMC. When we fundraise in
Atlanta we say it's for "Atlanta" IMC, not that it's for IMC as a global
network, so no one is confused about where the money is going.
We have very little money here in Atlanta. Our space is a small room in one
of our houses filled up with old junk computers that we've found and had
people give us. We've never had more than $1000 US at any given time and
have probably only ever had $2000US total in our over two year existence.
But we do have operating expenses, like once a year we have to go to
Columbus GA to cover the anti-SOA (School of the Americas) demonstration.
We incur about $500 for this, some of which we pay for ourselves, some of
which we solicit donations for.
I am still confused about whether or not you're saying that it's not OK for
this to happen. Because if so, we and several other IMCs have a serious
disagreement. Many IMCs have an actual space that they have to pay for that
requires them to be constantly fundraising. Is it OK, in your opinion, for
this to happen? If not, how are they/we supposed to operate?
