My suggestion is this,
lets ask our local "main-stream-medias" for the cash.

Thats right, their reporters do use OUR-STUFF.

We are non-profit.

We do the stories THEY don't want to do. 
(corupt gov. corprit controll etc)

We cover the protests.... in a way THEY can-not. 
(truthfully), like protesting is a right, not a privilege.

With-out OUR matterial, 
reporter simply repeat what the other-guy said.
(we help CONTRAST the event) 
reporters can then develope their own angles.
(rather than repeating the CNN signal)

With-out an alturnitive media, reporters will have no COMPETION.

Speaking about compition...?

We don't need to compete for advertizing dollars.
(if they fund us)
