FYI: The discussion period for this proposal has passed and there are no
outstanding concerns. If someone from IMC Vancouver would contact me, I
can begin working to disburse the funding for the servers.

PASSED: [April 21, 2003]; Noon GMT
DISCUSSION PERIOD: [April 7-21, 2003]

SUMMARY:

$1500 to help the Vancouver/Victoria/Alberta/Volunteer IMCs to help cover
costs for two servers which host several IMCs, Active2, and streaming
media.

***

This is a proposal to ask for funds to help maintain a couple of the
servers that benefit the network. The Vancouver Indymedia collective has
been providing support for three servers; namely, ender.indymedia.org,
hiro.indymedia.org and shiva.indymedia.org which comprise the western
Canadian indymedia infrastructure and have hosted Vancouver, Victoria,
Alberta and Volunteer for almost 3 years. Currently, we need financial
support to help maintain this infrastructure.

Our costs rose sharply last summer (G8) when we moved from a flat-rate DSL
connection into a high-speed colo and began being charged for bandwidth.

The web and mail server, Ender, and the streaming media server, Shiva, are
both located in a colo with bandwidth costs of $6CDN per GB; our last two
bills were approximately $800CDN each with bandwidth usage primarily for
the indymedia sites (Indymedia usage is approximately 80% of this).

We are asking for $1500.00USD if it is available to help cover the last
two months and for the next two months. It is our hope that these costs
will be sharply reduced once mirroring on paranode is working. If you have
any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me at
