> Projector Proposal:
>
> Introduction:
> The Saint Louis IMC [STLIMC] collective is requesting a microcredit loan
> of $2144 to purchase a Mitsubishi SD200u DLP video projector from
> www.projectorpeople.com to continue our successful Backyard Film Series.
> The STLIMC and the Community Arts and Media Project [CAMP] in which it is
> housed have recently been the object of intense, persistent government
> and police harassment, see www.stlimc.org for details. Film is a very
> accessible medium and our film series has proven to be a successful
> outreach and fund raising tool. Owning a projector would be a boon to our
> IMC and help ensure the continuation of our film series.
>
> Program Detail:
> The Saint Louis IMC has has put on a number of films and series ; these
> events have been great community outreach , education, and fund raising
> tools. A projector would enable our IMC to screen films and series with
> reduced financial and logistical cost. We have had success promoting our
> events, from getting them featured in alternative and not so alternative
> press to soliciting PSA's from a local radio station. Our events are self
> sustaining; a recent single screening of Straight Outa Hunters Point in
> the CAMP backyard brought in over $200 with around a hundred people in
> attendance. We ask for a $5 donation at our film screenings and neighbors
> get in free. The projector would also be available to rent for small not
> for profit events for a $50 per use and to other groups or individuals for
> $80 per use. We have been approached by several groups in need of a
> projector; it appears there is a demand.
>
> Past films and series:
> Lost Film Fest
> Social Justice Film Series - over 8 nights of film
> Clamour/Rooftop Films
> Straight Outa Hunter's Point ? Hardcore Hiphop documentary
> Eye of the Storm

> Possible future films and series:
> Indymedia Newsreels
> The Weather Underground
> GNN video
> Illegal Art Films
> Street Level Youth Media
> Documentaries by Local Filmmakers

Hi Liz,
A slightly off-topic, but related, question:
About the proposed "Possible future films and series: The Weather Underground"
May I ask who you will be contacting or interviewing from the Weather Underground
organization? Is there someone with the group, who will be consulting with your
filmakers? It's been so many decades since more or less everyone has come back from
the underground, but the voices of those who actually and personaly participated are
still being silenced, excluded, distorted, banned ( and all this from "progressive
media"! ), resulting in a continuous crucifying and malicious slandering of the
legacy of that section of the liberation movement. Is your group planning a different
approach, to ensure that the IndyMedia principles we try to inject in our mission of
radical journalism, will be upheld?
Looking forward to your thoughts,
Thanks,
Petros
