Come alcuni di voi gia' sanno,
un gruppo di persone che collaborano con Indymedia si e' recentemente
formato per lanciare il Tactical Media Fund (TMF).
Il nostro primo obiettivo e' recuperare fondi per progetti di
comunicazione critica e strategica a livello internazionale.
Come membri attivi di Indymedia che continuano ad inspirarsi ai principi
del network e che desiderano supportare progetti nel network stesso,
vogliamo informarvi dell'esistenza di TMF a farvi conoscere dove potete
trovare informazioni aggiuntive sul progetto: stiamo per spostare il

Il progetto e' attualmente ospitato dall'IMC di Urbana-Champaign, un
gruppo no-profit che sostiene gli aspetti fiscali di molti IMC e di
specifici progetti di Indymedia, cosi' cme progetti non strettamente
appartenenti al network.
La nostra intenzione e' che il TMF si sviluppi in una organizzazione
separata e indipendente, e stiamo esaminando le differenti strutture di
organizzazione che siano in grado di bilanciare in maniera esaustiva le
necessita' legali delle associazioni no-profit in USA con le relazioni
non gerarchiche che diano massimo spazio allla partecipazione e
collaborazione.
Questa e' una sfida grande, ma ci sono molti modelli esistenti di
successo, realmente no-profit (inclusi U-C IMC, Resist e Haymarket) e
siamo fiduciosi che il TMF possa continuare questo successo, e forse
anche aprire nuovi scenari e prospettive.

Riconosciamo anche le sfide che comporta il lavoro nel mondo delle
fondazioni.
Abbiamo preso la decisione consapevole di lavorare dentro questo sistema
di reperimento fondi per dirigerci quanto piu' sara' possibile con le
risorse che avremo a disposizione, verso progetti sia similari che
dentro Indymedia stessa.
La ricerca di supporto da parte delle maggiori fondazoni non e' nuovo
nel network di Indymedia - IMC LosAngeles ha ricevuto 10.000$ dall'Open
Society Institute per la Democratica National Convention, di George
Soros, nel 2000; molti altri IMC, specialmente in US hanno ricevuto
altri supporti dalle fondazioni.
Quello che e' nuovo e' che gente da dentro Indymedia, che crede in
questo approccio, ha deciso di ritrovarsi come gruppo di affinita'
all'esterno del network per fare questo.


Come sviluppi di TMF, ci aspettiamo di assistere ad un incremento di
diversi gruppi di partecipanti che approccino al progetto cosi' che si
possano espandere i nostri interessi e esperienze.

Non ci aspettiamo che chiunque in Indymedia sia d'accordo o supporti le
nostre decisioni. In ogni caso, vorremo sperare che si possa lavorare
insieme in maniera rispettosa, per l'appoggio dei nostri reciproci
lavori -- sia in accordo che in disaccordo.
Chiediamo anche la vostra pazienza mentre esporremo i dettagli del
supporto a Indymedia.
Perfavore concedeteci parte della stima e della solidarieta' che il
network di Indymedia ha saputo costruire negli ultimi tre anni.
Siamo consapevoli che ci siano differenti approcci cultrali nel lavorare
con le fondazioni: nel cosiddetto mondo in via di evoluzione, dove
alcune ong sono state particolarmente devianti e distruttive nella loro
opera, la gente e' giustamentre sospettosa;
mentre negli Stati Uniti la gente e' piu' disposta a lavorare con le
fondazioni -- anche per progetti radicali (per esmpio, Resist e'
parzialmente finanziato dai soldi della Ford Foundation).
Per aiutarvi a navigare e comprendere questi argomenti, TMF sta
scrivendo le proprie linee guida nell'accettazione dei fondi, che potete

Speriamo che le nostre azioni possano ispirare altre iniziative di
ricerca fondi che seguano un percorso simile o sviluppino strade
completamente nuove. Il TMF non intende essere l'unica e neppure la
principale fonte di ricerca fondi per i progetti di Indymedia.
Ci riteniamo un modello alternativo per direzioni diverse nella
strategia e nei meccanismi di ricerca fondi per progetti di media
indipendenti.
Molto lavoro deve essere fatto, e parte di esso richiedera' soldi per
essere completato. Speriamo di poter contribuire in questo senso.

Abbiamo programmato di inviare una mail informativa alle liste
imc-finance e imc-communication una volta che la prpososta OSI fosse
stata inviata alla fondazione.
Questa mail serve per rendere noto a Indymedia che abbiamo lanciato il
progetto TMF e siamo in fase di approvare la proposta.
Abbiamo avuto molto da fare in un arco di tempo molto limitato, e c'e'
stata la percezione collettiva che nel mezzo del nostro difficoltoso e a
volte caotico lavoro, non saremmo stati in grado di presentare
adeguatamente il progetto TMF e rispondere in tempo alle domande.
Abbiamo deciso di aspettare fino a che avessimo potuto approcciare
l'argomento in maniera piu' consapevole e completa, sia come collettivo
che come partecipanti individuali.

Ci appelliamo alla trasparenza e manterremo un dialogo aperto coi gruppi
e i collettvi che metteranno a disposizione i fondi per lavorare.
Speriamo che i documenti contenuti in questa lettera aiutino a dare
un'orientamento a molte delle questioni che la gente ha sollevato e
dimostrino l'intenzione di TMF di andare in questa direzione.
