hello everybody
i am sending you the mail i got from evan regarding
the proposal we have send to the finance list.
we wonder why he wrote to us personally and not
through the list. to show some power?
we completely disagree and disapprove the language
used by this person, who is very rude and
authoritative.
we are working in difficult conditions. we need
support from the group. hence we sent the proposal. we
are not greedy and we are not intended to suck
anybody.
we decided to send the proposal after consulting the
shops in India. we do not insist that the equipment
should be bought in India.
we sent the entire list of equipment we need, so that
the group can decide what is possible.
we thought indymedia is an universal concept and
nobody is superior than anybody.

Following is the mail we got from evan.
Hey i decided not to write back to the list just right
now. I forwarded
on your numbers along with prices in US dollars.
This may come across as being very harsh, which is why
i'm sending it
to you personally and not the list. I think we can
work something out,
but i have to tell you what i really think of your
proposal.
I have to say that i think you're asking for an
INCREDIBLY huge amount
of money. And i would very strongly oppose you getting
funding as you
laid it out.
What did you do? Just go and look in a store and price
out your dream
setup assuming that we have just tones of money to pay
for it? What you
spec'ed out is MUCH nicer than any indymedia activists
have in the
first world. On top of that you're paying much more
for things by
assuming that they should be bought in India.
I've done a lot of work getting resources to indymedia
centers in the
third world, mostly latin america. We for example have
worked on things
where we got 240 computers at a time to indymedia
centers for about
half the money you are proposing for a SINGLE computer
and SINGLE video
camera.
I'm sure we can work something out, but please don't
think that
indymedia is a rich network which you can greedily
suck dry.
An unstated prinicple of indymedia activism is that we
have always
tried to do a lot with very little. That may mean not
getting the
nicest cameras but it does mean that we accomplish a
whole lot. The
largest requests for money that have been approved
from imc-finance
have been for $3000. Is there anyway we can get
something that works
for you, including things like buyign them in teh US
and finding peopel
travelign to india to bring the equiptment to you,
that can be worked
out in that price range?
in solidarity,
evan
