[Imc-finance] finance request from St Louis [en] [es]

Hi Liz,
since no one has responded to you, i felt compelled to respond and get this dialogue going so we don't just sit quiet and ignore requests from our network. sorry for the delay. sascha has been the one who has kept these proposals going and i think we all should share this responsibility.
who else would like to help with this and keep the momentum going and not drop balls?
my personal response to your request is this:
since we started distributing funds out of the global account several years ago, we have to my knowledge never given money to an imc in the us. all the requests have come from the south. while there is no policy or anything written about this, other than a few emails before we were an official working group with a mandate to spend this money and a process, there has been an unwritten agreement that the bulk of these funds should go to those who are in greater need and to "redistribute the wealth" as much as possible. so to many people that means sending the money to the "global south".
this is not a policy nor is it anything we have ever discussed because we haven't ever had to. there have been no requests from a us-based imc.
my feeling is that it is easier for imcs in the states to get money for things like your request than for an imc in chile to do the same. or in argentina or in uruguay. perhaps i'm wrong about that.
i think it would be useful for us to discuss this.
also, as petros and others have asked for a long time, we do not have a plan for how to prioritze funds remaining in the bank account. we have simply agreed to fund the majority of proposals that have come through this list that were reasonable and seemed important.
perhaps it is time to assess where we are and if we think it a good idea to prioritize.
a projector is a great thing to have for a local imc. here in seattle, we were given a projector a long time ago and yet we are still looking for a newer one. we've been monitoring the university equipment donation site regularly because they sometimes have projectors there. have you guys tried doing something like that?
anyway, i felt the need to raise these questions and i think we all need to discuss them. i again am speaking personally. we have not discussed this at the seattle imc, although i have a feeling others would feel similarly. i doubt that the seattle imc (even though we are in financial straits and might have to move) would consider asking the global network to buy a new projector for our use - even if it's a great reason to have ongoing film series.
what do others think?
ciao
