we simply do this and apologize for taking such a long time to respond to
this proposal that went through the regular process.
......we obviously need to have more people participating in this
collective process here on imc-finance!

Hello,

Sheri is right of course.

There were many opportunities to expand the base of this imc-finance work- group which we missed because of our reluctance to deal with the politics involved, especially issues of collectivity versus individualism. Also, as a group, we tend to accept the domination of the "bookeeping approach" among us, instead of seeing that we supposed to be an instrument which should oversee the fair distribution (and enlargement) of the funds donated to IndyMedia. These funds were donated
for *political* reasons - those reasons should also be guiding us to the work of the finances group.

We can still generate more opportunities to re-align the work of the imc-finances work group. It *is* possible to accept our direction was mistaken, and to re-orient ourselves. Sheri and I have written several texts in these last two years, filled with suggestions on how to organise and maintain our financial process. It's easy to look them up, to update them, correct any errors, and use them to move on. Please have a look at them in the finances archives.

We will need to overcome our reluctance to talking politics, and to reduce our tendency of seeing everything as just a bookeeping issue.

The most important step should be to begin introducing to the imc-communications group (group of imc Liaisons) the dilemmas, the thoughts, the guiding principles, and the process of the imc-finance group, and to do our best to win over a few active Liaisons from other imc groups from around the globe, who will us to do our work better.

I know that most of you would agree that we should have a higher representation from imc groups around the world outside of the United States. Lets' try to make that a reality.
