thank you ana for taking the time to write up a lengthy "survey" of sorts of where the network is at with regard to money.

i can help with the survey and with compiling. i think this would be a valuable step.

i also think that we need to consider other elements, not just our differences and divergences - we are a network of networks, we are not homogenous. but in order to find where the common ground is and how we can accept the differences that obviously do lie between us, i think we need to rebuild trust, not make so many assumptions about intention and motivation and find ways to have more fruitful dialogue about the difficult issues.

count me in to help with the survey process and any other process that will encourage more productive communication and build trust in this very important global network. i believe that we must strengthen our cooperation to help us be an even more effective counter to the many forces that are destroying this world on many fronts (ecological, economic, social, emotional). if we don't think we have provocateurs in our midst egging us on in directions that do not serve our greater common interest, then you aren't paying attention to history. it's the easiest way to undermine a movement and if people don't feel that indymedia is a movement that is a major threat to the status quo on the planet, then i hope you start to see it that way.

within this network are many different ways of doing things and we have a spectrum of strategies and even a spectrum of allies. so as has been said before more eloquently than i, we are a network of networks. and in this can be our power. rather than seeing our diversity as our enemy ("you deal with money differently than we would so you are not good enough to be a part of our network" kind of thinking - i exaggerate slightly to make a point :), perhaps we need to slightly shift our thinking and begin to see our differences as a strength. that doesn't mean that we can't have concerns and voice them and ask for accountability where needed and all that.

rebuilding trust is essential in strengthening this network. even more so than deciding whether or not people should be paid or not for doing indymedia work.

peace,
sheri
