1. The NYC IMC acknowledges that global IMC funds should be used to support
Indymedia in the global South and East, where access to resources are
limited. Therefore, we withdraw the proposal.
2. However, we do request that $3000 be put on hold for emergencies (i.e.
bail money, should any independent journalists get arrested while covering
the Convention for Indymedia.) Those funds should get replenished to the
global fund if possible. (ie. once bails are returned, pending acquittals).
3. The NYC IMC calls on all IMCs that will be participating in the Indymedia
convergence for the 2004 Republican National Convention to help raise funds
to support that convergence according to the following formula: $30 x the
number of people participating x 2 to cover the per-person registration fee
and the additional funding needs the NYC IMC has projected. This fundraising
should begin immediately.
4. The NYC IMC acknowledges that the Urbana-Champaign IMC has done exemplary
work to transfer resources from North to South within the Indymedia network,
on top of supporting many IMCs throughout the US, promoting regional
collaboration, and building a vital resource for their local community.
5. The NYC IMC calls on all IMCs in the global north to hold at least one
fundraising event before September 2005 to benefit a particular IMC in the
global South. Perhaps this money can go directly to individual IMCs, and not
to the global finance account. This would help to establish direct
relationships between IMC's in the network.
6. The NYC IMC affirms the principles of decentralization and autonomy,
specifically with respect to local IMCs making their own determinations
concerning the use of money, within the spectrum of Indymedia principles of
unity, declaring that no IMC should be motivated by profit.
