First, I would like to state that I too greatly appreciate the hard work
that clara and rabble have put in to this application.
I have mixed feelings about this application, but I was going to keep them
to myself until it came to light that others also have concerns about
this.
Typically, at this point we would push our decision deadline back for more
discussion, but the deadline for this application does not allow for such
an action on our part (it would be the same as agreeing through inaction
not to apply).
Therefore I propose the following.
- We submit the application to ars-technica before their deadline. - We
announce a summary of the discussion here and in other places to the
imc-process list.
- We submit to the will of imc-process's decision making process to decide
if we will to go through with the application. That is, if no IMC speaks
up against the application, within one week of when the application is
submitted, it cannot be withdrawn.
- If an IMC does decide that accepting this money is a bad idea for the
network, and their concerns cannot be reconciled within a reasonable
timeframe, we resolve to inform ars-technica of our decision as soon as
possible so they can avoid the embarrassment of potentially giving the
award to us only to have us spit it back in their faces.
I am not an empowered liason for any local IMC, but I would like to
suggest a block on unilateral submission of the application without the
approval of the entirety of the IMC network, not just the folks on
imc-finance. Considering the timeframe of how this all happened, I don't
think this is unreasonable, but I still apologize for the inconvenience to
the supporters of this application (particularly those who did the nitty
gritty of filling out the application!) who are now uncertain as to where
it stands.
Solid,
