Hi IndyMedia tech folks.
My name is Jason Diceman and I'm the project manager for a new open source
server application called the Common-Forum <www.common-forum.org>
The Common-Forum aims to amalgamate varied online forum, mailing list and
news systems to create an ideal mass medium for democratic deliberation.
The technology is based on a collaborative database of links that specify
various relationships between articles. It will employ combinations of
recommendation techniques to empower users with personalized filtering and
useful prioritizing.
We are designing our system to work directly with applications like Active,
PostNuke, Slash, scoop and others, so that full articles and non-linear
threads can be easily syndicated between related sites. What's more, the
Common-Forum will allow users to avoid spam, poorly written articles and
other junk, and quickly find the most recommended articles.
The project has full written plans, dedicated management, a growing
development community and lots of promise. We use SourceForge for task
allocation, listserv for general communication and a Wiki for collaborative
documentation.
We are currently looking for expert PostgreSQL developers to set-up and
admin our first and only database. The PostgreSQL server is already running
and the table schema has been written, we just need it implemented. We are
also looking for developers to help us build simple SQL interfaces in a
variety of programming languages.
If you or someone you know is available to offer some development time
and/or insight to the Common-Forum project, please contact us:
staff@common-forum.org We would really appreciate any form of help you can
provide.
Visit http://www.common-forum.org to learn more, and feel free to pass on
this message to anyone you think might be interested.
Thank you for your time.
