Tendulkar is in the news again. Not for his cricket, not even for the =
ICC controversy. It is his much publicised Ferrari.=20
The government has decided to waive the 1.5 crore duty on its import! =
why? Well, Sachin is the one singular icon for the teeming millions. He =
is the epitome of perfection. What better to encourage perfection than =
to waive a couple of crores worth of duty.=20
It is another matter that Sachin earns 6 times the amount in a single =
endorsement.
And it is absolutely and completely another matter that an NGO in =
Bangalore looking after orphans had to send back the toys sent to its =
kids free by a well wisher from Malaysia because they couldn't pay up =
the duty of a little under 50 lac. ( I read an article about this NGO in =
The Indian Express a couple of weeks back and so don't remember all the =
facts. it may be based in another South Indian city).
