Hello,
Apologies for any duplicates. This is Brian, Ithaca-IMC's tech contact,
and occasional global tech.
One thing I've been working on lately is the current situation with
stallman.indymedia.org (the computer your collective's website is hosted
on). Stallman is heavily overloaded, and runs out of diskspace regularly.
We (the members of the zero.indymedia.org collective) invite your IMC to
move some sites from stallman to zero, thus making our our network more
fault taulerant, and arguably more secure.
The only catch is that we use different codebases to serve pages (DadaIMC,
at dadaimc.org, and freeform sv.gnu.org/projects/freeform) as compared to
stallman, which serves pages using the older active codebase. This means
if you move your site to our server, your site will look and behave a
little differently... However, you will experience far fewer bugs, and
most likely encounter faster response times as well. There are well-tested
conversion scripts to convert active websites in to dadaimc websites (and
one for freeform should be available shortly), and a handful of geeks
willing to help you get the move done.
Note: Just to be clear - this email is not a guarantee - we need to line
up geeks with IMCs, and we couldn't host all of the content currently on
stallman. If your IMC has techs, we would love to work/discuss with them
the technical side of things. If your IMC does not have techs, we'll need
to get a geek from our collective to "sponsor" your IMC. If you're
interested, please do not hesitate to write back.
Thanks for your time,
Brian Szymanski
