Summary:
Finances $750 imc global funds
$960 boston activists
We need to decided finance priorities and discuss using the money.
3 to 4 Donated from Boston to stay in India.
Hey folks, this an update on the financial situation looking forward
for indymedia and the project to cover and setup a media center during
the World Social Forum.
Harsh sent on the proposal to imc-finance for $750 in global funds to
the list on on the 1st of January and it was approved by the 4th. At
the same time, a group of Boston, USA activists also raised $950 in
funding for indymedia also to use during the WSF.
Right now we have $1700 at our disposal for the indymedia center.
$750 will be arriving with an activist on the 7th, and the rest will be
arriving on the 14th with the activists from Boston.
Priorities and using the funds:
We have discussed using money for renting computers, web streaming
equipment, and other expenses such as covering printing costs for
fliers. I think we should make sure we have computers in both the IYC
youth camp and the streaming audio station within the WSF forum. I do
not know how many computers we will need.
The people on the ground in Mumbai are best able to make the decisions
about money priorities. I think we need to make sure we share cell
phone numbers and generally keep people in touch and coordinated. This
is important especially for everybody who will be arriving before the
WSF officially starts.
Donated Computers:
Tecschange.org in Boston has graciously donated 3 to 4 computers to be
used by indymedia india during the WSF and to stay in india to be used
by the IMC or other organizations after the forum. They are 400mhz to
550mhz Pentium III's with 128 megs of ram and 6 to 40 gig hard drives.
We have the keyboards, mice, and cables, but not the monitors because
they are too large to fit in bags.
Is it possible to rent just monitors for these computers during the
forum?
Harsh told me that India now allows the importation of one computer for
personal use for travelers, do we know this to be the case. Do we need
people to declare the computers?
in solidarity,
evan
