[Imc-india] Regional Indian IMCs

Now that we have a new format for India Indymedia up (albeit still under construction), I would like to propose the creation of five regional "topics", which would allow users to post local news under relevant headings. This is currently bring done by IMC UK (www.indymedia.org.uk), which has regional IMC topics for Scotland, Cambridge, London, etc. I would like to propose the following divisions:

East - West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya

South - Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry

Central - Maharastra, Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Goa

West - Gujarat, Rajasthan

North - Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttaranchal, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi

I believe this is the best method of devolution, rather than the other option of relying on IMC collectives to go through the whole process of setting up new regional IMCs. Local activists from these areas would be able to concentrate on editorial co-operation, instead of worrying about tech issues and implementing the editorial policy.

We also need to work towards creating new language options, perhaps concentrating first on Hindi (although there could be some objections from some outside the Hindi belt).

Perhaps this is something that can be discussed more fully after the WSF, but I hope this proposal is taken seriously.
