Dear Indymedia

I am working on behalf of Synergy, a new umbrella organisation seeking to raise awareness of issues surrounding environmental, cultural & social development.

On March 22nd we are having a launch party at a venue called SEOne, in London Bridge, and are inviting a number of NGO's to help contribute a 'conscious' component to the event.

First of all we are putting together a projections project that will be shown all around the club, and are looking for any contributions of stills or video footage to be part of it. We will of course take the utmost care with any stills or video footage provided, and all contributions will be logged and returned if required. The venue capacity is 2900, so this is potentially a good audience for any footage you may like to lend us.

You would also be welcome to bring a stall with information, or if the man power isn't available you could send us information to put on our own stall.

The press release for the launch party is below, but I didn't want to send any attachments to this list. I've got a Synergy mission statement and other information if you're interested.

This is a great opportunity to target the 18-35 year old age group in a format that is accessible and interesting so we really hope you'll want to get involved.

It may also be worth mentioning at this stage that Synergy are working on a Festival project for the summer, and this would be another venue at which the projections project would be shown. If you have any complete films which, for editorial reasons, the creators didn't want edited into part of another project, or it has to have sound, this would be an ideal place in which to show them. If you have any work like that please let me know and we will endeavour to make it part of the festival schedule.

The deadline for the launch party flyer is Monday 10th Feb, and if we know you are interested in taking part by then we can put your logo on the flyer.

Lastly, we would always welcome information about the work that you do as we run a stall at the Subterrannia nightclub in Portobello area every couple of weeks. Again the target audience is 18-35. Please send any such leaflets to the address below.

If anyone requires any more information or clarification please don't hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks
Kind regards

Edwina Rigby

Press Release

Saturday March 22nd will see the launch of the next step in the development of the London ‘Conscious partying’ movement. Having worked together previously on the legendary Liquid-Spiral parties in 2001, Dom Spiral (ID Spiral), Steve Peake (Indigenous People) and Liquid Ross (Liquid Connective) are joining forces to establish a new umbrella organisation – ‘the Synergy Project’.

Synergy, literally the interaction or cooperation of agents, organisations etc to produce a new or enhanced effect compared to their separate effects, will be an environmental and cultural information network, creating spaces where those working on the cutting edge of cultural and social expression combine, using a variety of media, to conceive a place where creative energies are liberated and the spiritual dimension of our lives is unveiled. Working with established organisations and groups as well as individual artists, healers or campaigners, the Synergy umbrella will seek to bring together a wide variety or organisations in the fields of cultural, environmental and development education to work together towards common goals, pooling expertise and resources to achieve a wider and deeper impact than they would otherwise in isolation.

Negotiations have been finalised with SEOne, the arches underneath London Bridge Station formerly known as the Drome where the now legendary Warp Experience parties took place. The launch party will feature a room of psychedelic trance hosted by Altered States, a multi-experiential Chill hosted by ID Spiral, a live music room hosted by the Small World Stage, the Liquid Chill and a Healing Area hosted by Puma Punka (Festival of Flight).

Spread throughout the club will be a Conscious Component – curated by Indigenous People – featuring a projections project showing images sourced from Non Governmental Organisations working in the field of cultural, social and environmental development, many of whom will also be invited to hold stalls or exhibitions in the various rooms. Prominent figures from the environmental / alternative movement will also be invited to attend and lead open-mic sessions discussing topical social, cultural and spiritual issues. This Conscious component of the party will focus on how those wishing to achieve meaningful social change need to adopt ethical and sustainable lifestyles and working practices as a necessary precondition for change in the external political environment.

In addition to holding regular large-scale events in London, the Synergy Project will seek to hold a festival during the summer of 2003, which will feature a similar mix of music, dance, workshops in a wide variety of community and healing arts practices and information from the campaigns community. In addition sounds from the western dance scene, the festival will also feature traditional world music from groups from across the world, including Kakatsitsi, Master Drummers from Ghana, Garri Yalla, Aboriginal performance group, an Aztec Spiritual Dance Company from Mexico and a group of San Bushmen from the Kalahari Desert, who will lead the audience in participatory music and dance ceremonies, a metaphor for the emerging global sense of community and identity.

The Synergy Project will also offer advice and support to other grass-roots initiatives, assisting in areas such as incorporation, fundraising and marketing so that others can build their own organisations capable of integrating beneath the Synergy umbrella.

At this stage, we are reaching out to the networks of organisations, activists, artists and others who are supportive of the aims of the Synergy Project and interested in performing or exhibiting at Synergy events.
