Open Circle Arts Trust was formed with the idea of creating a platform for
exchanges and interventions in the cultural as well as social spheres. We
have in the past conducted various study circles, seminars, exhibitions,
and workshops on a national as well as international level.(for detailed

The recent flair ups of communal tensions and violence, has led to the
further polarisation of the communities and threatens to rent our
multicultural national weave asunder.
We have suffered unaccounted losses in terms of human life, property,
revenue and most of all =96kinship, trust, human values and freedom.
=46reedom of diversity, expression, existence=85
Against this backdrop, we, have decided to organize a series of events to
"RECLAIM OUR FREEDOM". (We are working in collaboration with the Kala Ghoda
Association, The Sarvodaya Mandal,The Sir J.J. School of Arts, The
N.G.M.A.,The Chemould Art Gallery,Pundole Art Gallery, Samovar Restaurant,
The Madras Coffee House & Insaniyat amongst others)
The events start from the 6th of August, the anniversary of the milestone
of odium against humanity- the bombing of Hiroshima and will culminate on
15th of August, the independence day. The list of all the proposed
activities is attached.
List of events proposed for the Reclaim our freedom Week:
* Another exhibition of art works and a desk for sale of publications,
stickers,
T-shirts and other materials will put up at a venue (proposed Stuttgart
Hall Mumbai) Computer consoles will also be set up with down loaded
relevant web-sites and information. This can also have a program that pops
awareness messages in blurbs or has an interactive a pop-up quiz.

* The space in certain caf=E9s will be made available for placing objects,
painting on walls or other surfaces. ( venue Madras Caf=E9, Other proposed

* Documentary films screenings at all the colleges in Bombay starting mid
July 2002. The screenings will be accompanied by at least one speaker from
outside the college. Preferably the Aar Par-2 project* and the poster
exhibition by the students of Sir J.J. School of art ** will also tour
these colleges along with T-shirts, books, stickers, video tapes and
detailed information on relief collection.
* ( Aar Paar 2 will take place simultaneously in Mumbai and Karachi in July
2002 in which ten artists from each city will develop single colour work to
be printed locally and inserted into public spaces: by plastering on city
walls, distributing these as folded leaflets at traffic lights across the
city, or something which enters people=92s homes with their morning
newspaper- project by Shilpa Gupta from India, and Huma Mulji from Pakistan)

* Two sites will be identified for soap box operas in the Churchgate
station and Kala Ghoda area. These will have performances / actions by
artists either collective / individual.

* Paint 2 or more public Service Hoardings with messages at vantagepoints
in the city.

* The Rampart row road will be pedestrianised on Sunday the 11th of August.
We will be covering the road with canvas (which will have a relevant slogan
painted vertically in the center) and ask children to paint all around it.
This huge banner can be dropped from the top floor of the David Sassoon
Library. Also proposed is a concert for peace on the same spot in the evenin=
g.
* Performance by Ms. Mallika Sarabhai with the Darpan Troupe on the 14th of
July 2002
* Kite fying on 6th august in most of the schools and street children. The
kites have messages of peace=92s.
* On the! 5th We have organised a concert for peace at the Anjuman-e-Islam,
=46ort Mumbai.
