Any new-imc volunteers (e.g. for bangladesh)?
Having read shekhar's message:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-mumbai/2002-July/000106.html
> Post-Graduate Diploma in Media class around Bombay. Through these
> talks we have recruited more than a hundred new people to this list,
> and have introduced them to the idea of IndyMedia and what we have
> done so far in the Bombay IMC so far. I hope everyone on this list
and given that you now have all been through the new-imc process,
and that you have numbers of participants which are probably much
more than many existing IMCs, please, anyone who would like to
volunteer for the "new-imc working group", please just introduce
yourself by sending an email to new-imc at lists.indymedia.org,
then subscribe to the list (yes, you can send your introduction
*before* you subscribe!) at
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/new-imc/
spend a little time looking through the pages:
http://newimc.indymedia.org
and the archive
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/
and when you feel ready, just introduce yourself in a friendly
way to the people who want to start an IMC in Dhaka and try talking
them through, helping explain things, etc. (You could even start
by saying you'd like to help them through the process, but you're
new yourself.)
There's no fixed style of how to do this, i have my own style, others
have their styles, everyone has to find some compromise between doing
too little (just saying: read the http://newimc.indymedia.org site
and saying nothing else) or doing too much. i started copying jay's
habit right from the beginning of copying all my messages to a public
list. And this is why encouraging people to create their own list
quickly (so that new-imc doesn't get too clogged up) is useful.
i'm sure the bangladesh people would be happy to hear from other
South Asians, and you certainly have more understanding of local
conditions there than i do...
And regional networking will clearly be a good idea sooner or later,
so you might as well start contact sooner rather than later...
Anywyay, here are the most recent emails from bangladesh:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2002-July/003874.html
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2002-July/003875.html
(i think there may have been earlier contacts within the last month
or two - there should be emails on new-imc and maybe also on imc-india)
good luck
