[IMC Bombay] website hosting

hi everyone,

it's been awhile since i've had email communication with anyone from
this group- i've been very busy recently. but i've been following the
progress.

it seems like the imc application process is almost complete. when
it's done, is the website ready to go live?

if so, all that needs to be done is have mumbai.indymedia.org (and/or
bombay) point to the bandwidth coop server. then i need to make a
small change to the server configuration. everything will work as
before with the same data, but with the new domain name.

if there are technical/hosting issues that need to be resolved before
going live, please let me know what they are.

when you are ready to set up the domain names, someone needs to
contact the DNS group. ask them to set up a CNAME record so that
bombay.indymedia.org (and/or mumbai) points to
zero.bandwidthcoop.org. if they need an IP address, it is
216.243.113.29. but they shouldn't need it for a CNAME record.

the bandwidth coop can also provide email services if you like. the
global indymedia group can setup aliases like sanjay@indymedia.org.
but they don't provide email boxes, so you have to already have a
POP3 email box for the mail to be forwarded to. the bandwidth coop
can provide these if you need.

or if you prefer, you can have the bandwidth coop act as mail server
for the domain bombay.indymedia.org, allowing everyone to have
addresses like sanjay@bombay.indymedia.org. if you do it this way, we
can set up one or more of your members as email administrators for
that domain name. you can use a web interface to create email
accounts. you can have as many as you need.

if you want email addresses like sanjay@bombay.indymedia.org, then
you need to ask the dns group to setup the mail servers for the
domain name to be:

mail.balticave.com (216.243.113.26)
mail2.balticave.com (216.243.113.25)
mail3.balticave.com (216.223.232.98)

just let me know what you decide so i can set it up on my end.

take care,

-scott
