Dear Friends:

PUKAR cordially invites its Associates, Advisors, and friends to a 
presentation and discussion with VINAYAK CHATURVEDI  titled "Vinayak 
and Me: 'Hindutva' and the the Politics of Naming". The presentation 
will examine the impact of V.D. Savarkar's theory of politics and 
strategies of mobilization in the making of modern India, through a 
reading of his text 'Hindutva: Who is a Hindu?'

VINAYAK CHATURVEDI is Assistant Professor in the Deparment of History 
at the University of California,
Irvine.  He had edited Mapping Subaltern Studies and the Postcolonial 
(London: Verso Books, 2000). His areas of specialisation are 
postcolonial studies and modern South Asia, and his current research 
is on colonial power and agrarian politics in Gujarat.

This discussion, and future gatherings focused on discussing issues 
of common interest and concern to the PUKAR Associates, is a monthly 
interaction organised by PUKAR for invited friends and guests. These 
gatherings are held on the third or fourth Saturday of every month at 
6.00 p.m. at The Bombay Paperie in Fort. PUKAR thanks the Manager of
