hi vijay, evan,
Thanks for the additional info - if you choose not to create a
mailing list yet, could i suggest that you use the list
imc-india at lists.indymedia.org ?
i think all of my comments:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-india/2002-December/000714.html
still remain valid, and praccus' comment:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-india/2002-December/000715.html
is also valid.
If you wish to download and install an indymedia engine over the next day
or two, or if evan or someone else wishes to rapidly set up a remote
site for you, that's fine, you can negotiate that between you by consensus,
as long as the alias
hyderabad.indymedia.org
is not set up, since that would be extremely confusing to
everyone. People at the ASF would be misled into thinking that
Indymedia is just software and that non-hierarchy, diversity,
consensus, broad local outreach, etc etc are not needed.
Since your long term goal is to set up a real Indymedia collective,
but you also want to show the people at the ASF that you can provide
something useful for their purposes, my suggestion would be
(1) + (2) + (3c)
of
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-india/2002-December/000714.html
so that you would have
(1) open publishing (already functioning!)
(2) two mailing lists specificially for creating a Hyderabad collective
(within about 24h or so it should be functioning)
(3c) a wiki aimed at synthesis of ASF issues (if your connection is
permanent, you can easily do this on your own PC).
IMHO, this would be much easier and better than creating an instant
site that you're not ready for. (Of course, if evan or someone else
wants to create you a site, maybe with a name like
scratch.indymedia.org
then that would be okay - since then it would be clear that it's only
a temporary place for learning and not yet a real indymedia site.)
Please follow up discussion at <imc-india at lists.indymedia.org>
(unless someone has a better suggestion).
