hi boud,

the short answer is this: we had a major hardware failure which also damaged the hard drive. we have no backups.
we are investigating the possibility of data recovery on the hard drive.

we have a new server in place and are beginning to bring the sites back up. when ithaca was brought up, i guess the
apache config was done wrong, so that its page is displayed instead of the page explaining the situation. i'll fix that
today.

i am almost done with a longer email explaining the situation in detail. you and the other folks associated with
mumbai that i have had contact with will receive a copy of the email. it should go out tonight.

i don't see any obstacle to have the mumbai site functioning before january 2. they are using dadaimc. the author of
that says he will be releasing the next version today, so i've been waiting for that. if i don't have it by tonight, i'll install
the previous version. they will need to do at least some basic customization. i don't know if that will be done by
shekhar, sanjay or who.

i feel terrible about the loss of the data and the lack of backups. i take partial responsibility for that. one thing that
has been learned is that we shouldn't depend on just one person. several things in my life got very difficult over the
last several months and i wasn't able to keep up with my work.

in my longer email i'll propose that we develop a collective composed of the groups who host on the server. this
collective can deal with issues of money, server management, etc.

talk to you soon,
