hi everyone,

i saw the recent post asking for technical advice or assistance in
establishing the site for imc-mumbai.

there is a lot of technical information here:

http://www.bandwidthcoop.org/imc/tech/FrontPage

this site has been assembled by many different people and is very
disorganized. but there is a lot of information there.

ultimately you need to pick a software package to manage the site.
there are many choices. i believe it is easier if you pick software
which is specifically written for indymedia.

for some time, every site used "standard active". there are now a
number of better choices. i am somewhat familiar with dadaIMC and sf-
active.

of these two, dadaIMC is much easier to setup and begin using. you'll
need a decently powered server, a webserver, and a mysql database.
setting these up will require someone with unix experience. there is
good documentation here:

http://www.dadatypo.com/dadaIMC/

i can provide help on these if needed. in addition, if you need, the
bandwidth coop can provide hosting for you. we could help you set it
up, but you would have full ability to manage and customize the site.
this might make things easier for you if you didn't have to deal with
the added issue of setting up and managing a server.

or, if it would be of any help, we could set up an evaluation site
under sf-active and dadaIMC. this might help get you familiar with
the software while you work on your own server. in addition, it might
help clarify how the website relates to some of the issues petros
mentioned: editorial process, group decision-making, etc.

i am not yet a member of this mailing list, as my subscription is
awaiting moderator approval. please include me directly in any reply,
to insure that i see it as soon as possible.

please let me know if i can be of any help,

-scott
