Subject: National Convention for Peace, Secularism,and Democracy
Dear Friends,
The National Convention for Peace, Secularism and
Democracy which had been postponed earlier will be
held on JULY 13 and 14TH , 2002, at the Rashtriya
Mill Mazdoor Sangha Hall (R.M.M.S), Mazdoor Manzil,
G.D.Ambedkar Road, Behind Tata Cancer Hospital, Parel,
Mumbai-12. It will start from 9 a.m. onwards.
This socio-political peoples' movement would broadly
comprise of every section that is committed to the
CONSTITUTION. This socio-political peoples' movement
would broadly comprise of the Left, Centrists, NGOs,
Community Organisations, Trade Unions,
Phule-Ambedkarites, Gandhians, as well as sections
from the field of Art and Culture, Media, Judiciary,
Police, Industry and other disciplines.
The focus of the convention would be two-fold: A
Nationwide Campaign on the Genocide and Ethnic
Cleansing in Gujarat and the formation of a coalition
of democratic forces on a nationwide basis.
July 13th will consist of a morning session on
Gujarat. Some of the papers which will be presented at
the session are: Ten years of Hindutva in Gujarat:
1992-2002, Gujarat Genocide in the laboratory of
Hindutva 2002, Impact on the economy and working
class, Impact on women and children, The contribution
of Muslims to Gujarat and where do they from here.
The afternoon session will consist of the delegates
breaking up into different groups like under the
following heads.
Relief and rehabilitation
Legal issues
Trade Unions
Student & youth organizations
Women
Culture
Education
Media
Dalit-Adivasi-OBC- Minorities
Ayodhya
Religion
The coordinators of these groups will integrate these
proposals into modules, and pass on the same to the
various NGOs, Community Organisations and other
institutions fighting against the fascist forces at a
National level.
July 14th will focus on building a nation wide
coalition of the various groups and will include open
sessions.
Delegates should get down at Dadar Rly Station. For
out station delegates' arrangements have been made for
boarding and lodging. A registration fee of Rs.50/-
would be incumbent.
