Hi all!
I'm so glad to see that this list is coming up alive with events,
discussions and a progressive networking among socially concerned citizens.
I'm a happy subscriber for now a month. But I mostly read and listen to what
you guys say, rather than participate. But now, it's time for me to
intervene and ask you all for some help.
I'm a journalist, a travelling reporter, associated with none, but
writing for several international news agencies and publications. Till a few
months back, I've been more into soft travel writing, but I'm parting ways
with that and switching over to looking close at major contemporary social
issues around me.
Next month, I'm off from Cochin (Kerala), where I live, to New
Delhi, where I've got a few friends who would lend me their sofa to sleep on
and a PC to work on, seeking to work on three underreported social issues
disturbing me for a while.
1) Orphan kids of J&K and their future.
2) Bonded labourers of Punjab.
3) Mine workers of Bihar and their lives.
Spending all my professional life as a journalist just about in
Kerala, I couldn't develop much contacts outside, especially among activists
or NGOs. I request each of you reading this mail to kindly help me out in my
venture.
I'm looking for
1) Contact persons who might help me learn these or other issues
well,
2) And lead me to places of interest and help meet victims involved.
3) My Hindi is negligible and other local languages Greek to me, so
it would be a great help if someone would volunteer to help me communicate
with the people.
4) Indicate names of books, magazines or literature that deal with
these issues.
5) Point out other major issues that are going unreported, or
underreported by the media. Down from Kerala, I have limitations to keep
watching the northern regions and learn what goes on here silently. So
kindly help me with other fresh themes too..

with details.
