[IndyMedia Bombay] getting going ...

hey everyone,

Things are really moving on getting the Bombay IMC started up - we've
already had 2 meetings, and as of now we have 44 people on this list,
and its growing fast.

For those who want to know more about Indymedia and things - you can
surf around www.indymedia.org, check out some of the other city sites,
check out the India site - india.indymedia.org - and if you have the
inclination, please do add to the www.indymedia.org site's Indo-Pak
feature area. Also, if you want to start posting "news", please do go
ahead and use the india.indymedia.org 's Open Publishing system. I'll
try and compile a few more interesting links shortly - and if anyone
has any links that they think might be relevant, please do post them
to the list.

About getting the site started up - you may be interested in visiting
http://newimc.indymedia.org which gives more info about the indymedia
site and tells you the process of starting up a new IMC - what we
need, initially, is a list of groups supporting the IMC (please do
send me the name of groups that you are a part of) and a basic mission
statement about the purpose of setting up an IMC here - it would be
nice if whoever could could send in a little personal statement about
why they think an IMC is important here and that - and then we can try
and put all that together into a common mission statement.

We also need to form a "tech" group of sorts - a friend, Amyn
Merchant (amynmerch@yahoo.com) has experience in web-designing and has
volunteered to work on the tech angle - it would be nice if more
people who know a little bit about these things could get together and
form a tech working group and interface with the Indymedia network.

Now, importantly - about content - we NEED content coming in to form
a basic content base by the time we get the site up - I think it would
be nice if people picked up issues, topics to work on and started
getting content - perhaps post a little to the mailing list about what
you're interested in working on and why, what kind of help you need,
etc. and then people with similar interests or people who can help out
can network together and get content ready. We discussed a few topics
at the meetings, ((Shekhar - can you post the topics and minutes of
the meeting if possible?)). It would be nice if people used this list
to suggest topics, and started collecting content. As a side-note, if
anyone has content as hard-copy and needs information to be typed out,
I volunteer my services.
