Thanks for the email. Please accept my apologies as one of the authors
of that feature. Unfortunately, in producing the feature, we cc'ed
india@indymedia, which I take it does not get to you or the people on the
imc-mumbai or imc-india lists, and did not pursue it further. Please
accept this as a flaw in the network's communication structure combined
with the pressure of trying to address immediately such a crucial issue
and absolutely not any sort of bad intention.

I cannot speak for anyone else on the www-features list, but I would very
much appreciate any input anyone on the india and mumbai lists want to
bring to www-features. Please produce another feature on the
India-Pakistan tensions. Please produce a lot of features on the
India-Pakistan tensions -- every day or every week. And don't stop there:
produce features on any other subject you feel should be covered on the
global portal page of Indymedia.

If you only have time to suggest a link to the www-features list, that helps.
If you can put together a 100 or so words with a few links and a photo,
that's always the best. In any event, when we are looking specifically for
input from that part of the world, we will know where to send our queries.
Thank you again for your email, and again please accept my apologies. I
look forward to working with you in the future.

Dear www-features people,
There are now 52 subscribers on the imc-india mailing list,
and at least 44 subscribers on the very new imc-mumbai mailing list.

The india.indymedia site itself is run by the Madurai collective, who
don't have a good internet connection, and so don't much use the
imc-india list for discussing editorial decisions [i think they make
editorial decisions in face-to-face (not yet open or public?) meetings
in Madurai; and they presumably use a lot of off-list email], though
apparently they do stay informed of discussions on the list.

The recent india feature on the "main" site www.indymedia.org, as
discussed here:

does *not* seem to me to have been posted to imc-india, despite what

Well, if you want "heavy, heavy input from the India people", it might
be a good idea to send at least a "light" message to imc-india and
imc-mumbai next time. But maybe a bit of "heaviness" to make sure that
all
the new people understand the www-feature process would be good.

E.g. if www-features has some sort of 2-hour and 6-hour deadlines,
better make it clear to the imc-india/imc-mumbai people what sort of
deadline there is - and IMHO you'd probably need at least a 48-hour
deadline.

The imc-india mailing list has been growing rapidly recently, and
this would be a good way of helping them get concretely involved.
i'm sure that collective work by the locals on these lists could
lead to some very good features for the main site...
