IMC-Bombay

Hello Shekhar, Boud, and friends,

Shekar welcome to our efforts to expand the imc
network!
Boud, I want to thank you for aknowledging that our
concerns for the accelerated pace of new imc groups are
valid, and that we need to remain within our guidelines
in order to maintain some sense of continuity.

The way Boud analysed the situation with imc- Bombay's
status is excellent. I'm refering specifically to
Boud's letter
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2002-June/003644.html
in the sections titled
THE NEW-IMC PROCESS, and,
WHAT STILL NEEDS TO BE DONE.
If the group agrees to Boud's proposal, and shows an
understanding of our concerns and moves according to
Bouds's suggestions, then I'm all ready to give
enthusiastic support and no objections. I'd be happy to
see imc-Bombay created in that direction.

The most important part of the concerns is that we ask
the candidate groups to shift orientation: less
attention to The Website, more attention to cultivating
a face- to- face group process, collectivity.

I would add one more item. The mission statement needs
to address some things we always forget to ask: *who*
will the imc-bombay group be addressing, and in what
language? Is it oriented toward the idea that the
Bombay community is issuing communiques to the outside
world in English? Is it oriented toward the idea that
the imc-Bombay is to be an instrument of communication
by the Bombay community *for* the Bombay community, as
a tool for self- organization? In that case, which
language will it be using? Will it be mostly internet
based, or are the radio, print, and video media a part
of the concept?

Some readings to stimulate our exchange of thoughts,
which show how some of these concerns are woven into
what we do as media activists:
Caravana to Africa / Ways to help imc- Nigeria without
money.

Looking forward to hearing more about your project.
Best wishes,
Petros
