<font size=3D"+1">The posters called =EEAttacks on Right-Wing
Violence=EE, respond to the violent attacks
on foreigners which were perpetrated at the beginning of and
during the course of the Nineties in Germany. The acts,
committed by a small minority of right-wing youngsters and
tolerated or accepted by their environment, were
frightful for the victims and embarrassing for
all Germans. The pictures of the venomous mob and
martial parades of fanatic skinheads had a devastating effect on the
=EEimage=EE of a united Germany.

This poster exhibition is the result of a competition organised
in 2001 by the AGI Alliance Graphique
Internationale for art students in Germany.
Students from 26 Art Schools,
Academies and Universities participated in the competition and a total
of 454 poster entries were received! The winning posters
have been circulated around the world as televised
pictures and photographs.

These posters, born of rage, shame and despair are attempts at
organising resistance by way of an aesthetically striking means.
Opposition to the imminent danger to democracy is a challenge
everywhere where ethnic, religious and sexual discrimination is taking
place, where criminal offences are being committed and crimes
perpetrated. In this respect, these posters are =EEattacks=EE
on those who up to now have had too easy a conscience, attacks against
the tendency to flee into the private sphere in view of undesirable
circumstances and to leave resistance to others.

<font size=3D"+1">So, what=EDs left of this tri-faceted programme?
Three performances of a Marathi play, Pan Amhala Khelachay, based on
the Mumbai riots of 1993 at Experimental Theatre, NCPA and Prithvi
Theatre and a panel discussion on right-wing extremism. We will keep
you posted!
