I will not be able to attend the WSF as I will be in Tamil Nadu and Kerala in January and the first half of February. It's a shame as although I am not particularly fond of NGO grandstanding, it looks like India Indymedia will really be taking a lead in publicising the work of local NGOs to the wider activist community.
I have got an article on the Dalit marches to the WSF from the NCDHR, but I've been unable to upload it because the site is still down. Does anyone know when the new site will be up and running?
Regards,
Ganesh.

Great. More the merrier. We need a core group of (my estimate) five
people if we are to do any justice to our presence.

I'm in, as you probably know. As the only local (Mumbai) presence at
the moment, I am helping with coordination. Looks like we will get
Harsh from France, Evan from Uruguay, Max and Ali from USA, and
perhaps Ganesh and Ravi from other parts of India too. Evan has been
an enormous help with getting our site move taken care of, as have
others. Hopefully this will be completed within the next couple of
days, then we can do some coordination between ourselves to shape the
look and feel closer to what we want. Just for caution: the indymedia
- mumbai site may go down if no-one takes charge. Unfortunately I am
not involved there, and whoever I knew of has taken off to points
unknown. If anyone else has good ideas about how to take charge of
the move, this is the time to act. If nothing is done, we can still
revive mumbai indymedia at a later date, in fact it will tie in more
strongly with the india list, if I have understood some features of
our new publishing software. We will however, lose the few articles
posted earlier.
Ali is trying to set up a list where we can discuss the nitty
gritties. Hopefully this will be in place tomorrow, then we can open
up and plan a strong presence. Just btw, in my meetings here with
various people, I get the feeling that much is expected of indymedia
at wsf, so let's try and pull it off.
First thing everyone needs to do is visit the wsfindia.org site and
register as (freelance) journos with indymedia. It won't take long,
and they have some vague ideas about restricting entry to the media
center so the accreditation will help operationally. The registration
closes soon, so please do this asap.
I have already registered with them that we want access for outsiders
to our indymedia area, not the least because we will be conducting
live audio interviews for streaming across the world. I will follow
this again tomorrow, when I visit the WSF office. I need to get
commitments from them for our computers and software for managing a
full-fledged audio media center.
