Behavioural Science Network

The Behavioural Science Network is organising our next basic course in
Transpersonal Psychoanalysis. This is a practical course based on Transpersonal
and Liberation Psychology. It is inspired by the work of Carl Jung. Our focus
will be on integrating Eastern and Western psychological approaches.

The first module is a two-day weekend workshop. Which will provide the
background and philosophical framework and will include a chance to experience
some of the techniques. Following this we will have weekly experiential meeting
in a group setting, where participants will be shown how to use these
techniques. Unlike other courses that tell you how to do therapy we demonstrate
this in the group.

Focus on understanding dreams and symbolic processes --what is your unconscious
mind trying to express and your direction of growth?

The first weekend workshop is on 25th & 26th of Jan and possibly another one on
1st & 2nd Feb. Following that we will have one group which meets every Tuesday
from 7.30 -9.30 p.m. and another group on Wednesdays mornings from 9.30 -11.30
am. Participants can choose to join on of the two groups that will be held at
our office at Lokhandwalla complex Andheri (W). Fees are Rs 3000 for the whole
course this includes some zeroxed material. First preference will be given to
those who choose to register for the full course. The fee for those who only
wish to attend the weekend workshop only is Rs 1500 for the two full days. This
does not include lunch.

This course will be open to mature adults who are interested; following an
interview to determine suitability. Depending on your academic background a
telephone interview may be sufficient or you may need to come and meet us.

To register please call Dr Mirchandani on Tel 26392866 between 9-10 am or 9-10
p.m. Alternatively send an email to behavnet@gmx.net
we will then provide you with further information. If you need it we could
provide references from students who have attended our previous groups.

Dr Dayal Mirchandani, M.D. DPM, and Dr Liza Misra MBBS (medical
psychotherapist) will conduct the course.

The advanced phase of the course will follow as a number of workshops over the
next year. This will include an opportunity to be supervised in their clinical
work. We will also organise workshops on solution oriented counselling
techniques, Ericksonian and NLP techniques that can be integrated with analysis
to enhance its effectiveness.

In India Psychoanalysis is not a regulated profession and any one can practice
it. Transpersonal psychoanalysis involves care of the psyche and soul and No
treatment or cure is promised, instead people are helped to live in harmony
with their inner processes. Please note we are not teaching Freudian techniques
our course is based on transpersonal psychology that we feel is more useful in
our cultural context. There is a good demand for the services of analysts due
to the complexity and stresses of modern life.

The focus of transpersonal psychoanalysis is optimal mental health. . Its aim
is the healing of psychological wounds and the building of healthy
psychological patterns. Where most psychotherapies view therapy as fixing
something that is broken, transpersonal analysis is a process of trusting ones
inner wisdom that if given the proper support and guidance, will bring about
healing and growth.

Transpersonal therapy is strongly eclectic, drawing techniques and
understandings from a wide variety of psychological and spiritual sources.
Transpersonalists are inclusive in their approach and draw from a variety of
approaches including behavior modification, cognitive restructuring, gestalt,
psychodynamic inquiry, dreamwork, art, IPT, hypnotherapy and meditation to name
a few. In addition, transpersonal therapists are open to the spiritual
interests of the client. Its aim is to apply the most useful strategy for the
client's well-being. Recognising that each therapy has its value, as well as
its limitations.

It is also inclusive in terms of cultural views of psychological health and
draws from various cultures. From Eastern cultures come views of human nature
drawn from Hinduism, Yoga, Buddhism, Zen and practices such as meditation. From
indigenous cultures come views of the relationship of individuals to Spirit.
And it draws on therapeutic and scientific orientation from Western Culture.
