Subject: Indian Troops to Iraq - Where do you stand? Or do you?

Hola All
You've probably read in the press that the American government has asked the Indian government to send Indian troops to Iraq as "peace keepers" (piece keepers is closer to home). People Against War and most sane Indians feel this is wrong and should be opposed. America fought this war in the face of global opinion, including that of the Indian people. Now that the real war is starting and the death toll of American soldiers hit by snipers, grenades and car bombs is mounting, they want our troops to fight it for them.

Obviously the time to say no as loudly as we can is now, before it becomes a done deal.

There's a super initiative afoot by a group called the Concerned Indians Citizens Committee which consists of:
1. Circulating the text of a proposed advertisement in the newspapers which opposes the sending of troops to Iraq.
2. Asking concerned citizens to put their names to the ad and contribute 100 rupees (or more if they are willing) towards the cost of the ad.
3. Printing the text as an ad in the newspapers (full page ads, funds permitting) with the names of all or as many of the people who have signed on and contributed as possible, grouping them under their professions, vocations, etc.

Personally I think its a great idea. Asking people to sign on and contribute 100 rs helps them express their stand on this issue in a very real, at the same time, affordable way. It also doesn't demand more than a few minutes of their time.

PAW is supporting the initiative and trying to help make it work.

I'm attaching the form with the text of the message. Whoever's up for it, please:
1. Print out the attached form, sign up, and contribute whatever you can, but a minimum of 100 rupees.
2. Return the form and the money to the address given below. Those of you who know me can contact me.
3. Make photocopies of the attached form and circulate, asking people to sign up and contribute, and re-circulate the form.

The forms and the money can be returned to

Shiraz
