hey,

a reaction to the mail of Guido on this list. I'm the member of the edito team of IMC OVL to which Guido refers.

What happened: under a documented article on severe human rights violations in north-korea (concentration camps etc), an article that was also attacking the position of the belgian communist party PVDA towards north korea, there were some comments posted on cannibalism in north korea. the information in these comments was based on an article on the right wing (homophobic etc) website
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/
that's why i hid these comments:
http://ovl.indymedia.org/news/hidden.php?id=1156#1236

i interpreted the whole discussion on cannibalism also as an attempt to trouble the discussion and to make the main article ridiculous.

censure ship claims followed in the newswire and in comments. (style: "why does imc ovl wants to hide that people eat each other in north korea?")

i had the impression that some people just wanted to give the editors of ovl a hard time. i checked the ip logs (technically possible with the sf-active software). it turned out that the comments on cannibalism and the censure ship claims came from a volunteer of IMC Belgium (member of the named communist party) and a former volunteer of both IMC Belgium and IMC OVL.

i didn't appreciate them giving us (an IMC only some months old) a hard time. so on IRC i asked them to stop doing this. as a reaction to a mail from the volunteer of IMC Belgium to our edito list (he thought erroneously a member of our IMC was spamming their newswire) i said "at least he's not posting anonymously, which can't be said of your posts on our website". he denied he posted anonymously on our website; "check the ip log's" he said, so in my answer i named who posted under which alibi in the discussion on cannibalism in north korea.

i would not have written the link real name-alibi in an email list with open archive if the concerned posters would be a possible victim of repression of any kind. i only did it because they where playing childish games, although they know very well how difficult edito work can be.

willing to discuss on this matter with people on this list.

greetz,

klaas - imc ovl

PS
according to guido
"Somebody of the edito-team keeps all the loggs it seems of people who post
on ovl.indymedia.org."

this is not true, the ip logs are visible in the admin pages and disappear after a while
