Sydney IMC minutes 10Jul01
present:: colene, jj, safari, corina, maffew, andy, predator, hugh
apols:: rosiex

facilitator:colene
notes:andy (sorry for late posting)

agenda::
answering machine: is not in existence anymore. going to get voicemail
rather than use hardware. (jj)

digital imaging equipment: ie camera/scanner - colene empowered to
investigate and purchase items up to $400 worth.
Will need to be mindful of storing equipment and borrowing
procedures. (colene)

ActiveFair: lots of groups getting involved - what is indymedia
specifically going to do? was rhetorical device used to stimulate all
present. (http://www.active.org.au/sydney/fair)

needed: laptops (andy), propangandha (safa, col, hugh) , sound/mixing (jj),
updating flyers (col), video presentation , tshirts?

The Stall: - andy is personing the stall, Hugh/Colene are roving
around organising the event (& keeping the socialists in line ;l)
Be there 5pm - starts 6:30pm to 9pm.

Jim&Stacy may do some theatre production.

"webkids@active.org.au" - need proding that they need a presence
at this gig.

MCing: There was a identified need to take on a role of "stage
manager" at the "non-hierarchical" activist fair.. to keep it
non-hierarchical. The intended flow of events would be.. Intro/Background
to the fair.. Naomi Klein talk then the soap-box (time-limited) group
rant (implemented using a physcial queue of people).

Colene was id'ed as a good candidate for this position.

phonebill: $260 - warehouse modem bill. One and half month lag on billing
- all of the bill is incoming data (ie "surfers") bandwidth. (jj)

Sydney IMC Radio:
Change of direction of format is being discussed.
(The show is a half hour segment on 2SER Fridays 9am)
Ideas discussed:
More news from the global indymedia network ?
More audio news from global indymedia network replayed on the show? (ie
download audio files from around the world for editing/mixing into show)
Feature a specific topic , research various positions, using global
indymedia, and focus on that, for one or more shows?

The radio show is well liked, and the group was supportive of using
a focused theme approach.

Unfortunatly feedback from 2SER was that there is no clear direction for
the show. The above ideas hopefully will address this. A meeting with 2SER
is coming up at which the future of this segment is being discussed.

NowWeThePeople Conference:
Tuesday & Friday night session for making computers to be
networked at the conference.
Note: This has already happened and went well - got lots of contact
to a very different audience than usual - ie middle-aged activists
generally unexposed to "internet",or network-based, organising.

VirtualPalestine:
donation of $400 for using IMC space/computers during training
sessions. (receipt by jj)

ElectroFringe:
would like some sessions developed by IMC people - specifically in
broader context of network-based activism. Last year's sessions were
rather practical/explanatory/geek workshops - this year more
philosophical stuff like "nature of internet and civil society",
"dotcomBOMB and indymedia type movements", "organising via networks and
cells"
..
after ActiveFair, col to post ideas to list, to which YOU must respond.

maff's keys:
maff last meeting - his keys to da warehouse (CAT/IMC spaces) are
to stay with colene. email her to borrow them

networking diagram from CIMC:
maff expressed some interesting in bottom half of this graphic , with mods
to diagram to show "implementation", or "taking action" where
"3. Policies" is shown.

Bankstown Media Watch:
maff is going here in august to discuss possible collaborations
with this group - they are trying to change the percieved (mass
media) image of Bankstown from drug-infested, overrun w/ ethic gangs,
impoverised town. contact him to be involved.

Media interviews:
maff seems to be main contact for media interviews due to
historical precendents and involvment.
Suggestions that we nominate one/two persons (with phone numbers for quick
contact) as media spokes.

Next meeting:
	7th August 7:30pm 17 Lord St StPeters
	somebody put in on active!
