Hi everyone,

I know I haven't sent an update of the new-imc working group in a while.
Lots going on here, as you can imagine. I'll make this short:

1) Welcome St. Louis IMC!
2) New Jersey and Victoria
3) Upcoming IMCs
4) Climate/Issue-based IMCs
5) Regionalizing/New Zealand
6) New applications

1) Welcome St. Louis IMC!
We cleared our first IMC through the new-imc process without a hitch.
Welcome to the St. Louis IMC and thanks to them for being so patient as we
worked through our glithces.
St. Louis introduction:

St. Louis application:

2) New Jersey and Victoria
Applications for the New Jersey and Victoria IMCs have just gone to the
imc-process list. I'm pretty confident we'll be able to welcome them to
the fold in a week.
NJ application:

Victoria application:

3) Upcoming IMCs
A few of IMCs have sent their responses to the membership criteria in to
the new-imc@indymedia.org list. We're following up with a couple
questions, but imc-process should be seeing them soon.
IMC-Portugal:

IMC-Ottawa:

IMC-Norway:

IMC-Austria:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2001-July/000585.html
(they're already listed on the cities list but haven't really made it
through the process yet)
Also, IMC-Netherlands had a founding meeting a few weeks ago and should be
getting some responses together soon. IMC-Nigeria was supposed to have had
a national founding meeting yesterday; we'll see how that went.

4) Cimate/Issue-based IMCs
We've had a bit of a discussion on the new-imc list, some of which rolled
over to imc-process, about the Climate IMC and Issue-based IMCs. Nothing
resolved yet, but we did encourage imc-tech to link the Climate IMC through
the "upcoming events" section of the www.indymedia site, and they've been
linked very prominently in two features. We're talking in general about
the implication of opening issue-based sites. Check out the new-imc
archives through http://lists.indymedia.org for details.

5) Regionalizing/New Zealand
Miles from a forming IMC in New Zealand wrote expressing some frustration
wtih the length and lack of clarity of the new-imc process, suggesting a
regional organizing format may help dispel some of that. Praccus and
others have been discussing ideas such as developing stronger regional
working groups and networks. Discussion in the archives is mainly under
the "new zealand" thread.

6) New applications
Since the last report there have been applications and inquries from:
South Africa:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2001-July/000580.html
VirtualPalestine.org (still clarifying that to see how we're going to
address it)
Burma (still clarifying that one too)
Food Not Bombs IMC (talked about supporting the development of a FNB site
with open publishing but not as an IMC)
IMC-Georgia:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2001-July/000542.html
IMC-Croatia:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2001-July/000533.html
And yet another application from Turkey:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2001-July/000552.html
(still no clue what to do about Turkey)

Sorry if I missed anything or anyone.
