Sent them information, they met with Gilles from IMC-France and seemed to
be on their way, haven't heard much lately
VENEZUELA: September 18 --

JAPAN: September 20 --
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2001-September/000991.html
Actually Ann applied earlier but I can't find that e-mail, probably. We're
communicating, things are going well, still trying to work out some
technical kinks about posting to the sites and using the e-mail lists with
Japanese characters
PHILIPPINES: October 2 --
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2001-October/001018.html
Just some exploratory communication

most of their responses in, though they seem to be missing a couple things

Sebastian has been in contact, as I understand it, with the Spanish

Imc-latina has been working with them for a while, and things seem to be
moving forward
SAN DIEGO:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2001-October/001125.html
There's some question about whether they've already been "approved" or not,
but their documents are all in now and they should be moving through
imc-process soon.
Discussions since the last update: (please check out the list archives at
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/ to follow these threads)
IMC-Latina: We seemed to have worked out a way for the imc-latina group to
help Spanish-speaking new-imcs into the network in Spanish, while still
being part of the new-imc list. Basically, imc-latina is going to help
Spanish-speaking IMCs in Spanish so they can feel comfortable communicating
in their own langauge, while still cc'ing the new-imc lists so we all know
what's going on. Sounds like a plan.
IMC-Russia: There was a lot of talk, both on the new-imc and the
imc-process lists, about IMC-Russia, with situations concerning everything
from the poltical leanings of the person who held the password of the IMC
to the idea of open publishing in a climate where right-wingers masquerade
as left-wingers. Vladimir has shared the password and, while the site is
still up, the collective is reforming. Some on imc-process suggested they
go through the new-imc process after they form -- Chris from IMC-Chicago
expressed concern about the new-imc process.
IMC-Audit: Several on imc-process have suggested that all "old" IMCs go
through the new-imc process. Action hasn't been taken on that yet, but
there was concern (okay, it came from me) that the new-imc working group
shouldn't be the one asked to do the "audit" because we're already
over-stretched.
IMC names and nationalism: There has been ongoing discussion about IMC
names and nationalism, how some don't want to support national boundaries
by naming IMCs after nation-states, how others generally want to let each
IMC make their own decision with the knowledge that we prefer non-national
names. You'll find this discussion in various threads such as those
discussing the names of the Greek IMCs.
IMCs on which lists: We've decided to start asking new-imcs to not only
have someone on imc-communication, but on imc-process, finance and tech as
well.
IMC-India: Something we're all still working through. IMC-India was once
listed on the cities list but then the site fell into a period of severe
inactivity so it was removed. Now there are local collectives forming that
will be working with members of the IMC-India team who don't currently live
there. The questions are many, but one seems to be whether this is an
issue for the new-imc list or for imc-process, and whether we should wait
until the local collectives are functioning to re-list the India site or if
we should do it now.
Okay, I'm sure I missed something, but I hope I didn't miss much. See you
in the next update,
Jay
