This whole project started out on a whim. We kinda just said we were going
to do it and then somehow we did. Sure there was a lot of work, but not
much planning.

I think now that we're realizing that there is value in continuing this
and doing it for multiple countries/imc's we need to get a little more
organized. I know I don't want to be coordinating it. I think we should be
working on transitioning this in to some sort of working group which can
organize things.

Well it's only a proposal, but this is what i wrote up to try and get
money for the shipment.

I wrote it with feedback from pietro and gaba because there were the only
two latin@ techies i could find online the night i was writing it. Rushed
deadline. :( Anyway the method of the training and the topics are just to
show the kind of things that would be taught.

I agree we need to make this a collaboration. I've been talking mostly
with the folks at the Rosario IMC because the folks in Buenos Aires are
very busy. When i asked them they thought it was a good idea to get
computers but really didn't have any time to focus on it. To be honest,
they also thought that the Madres should be the organization to recieve
them. This worried me for two reasons, first because the Madres are very
political it's unlikely we'd be able to get through customs smoothly. I
think it makes more sense for this project to look as apolitical to
customs officals as possible. Secondly although the Madres have done
incredible work and i admire them, they do have a reputation of being
quite authoritarian and controling. That worries me in terms of a partner
organization.

The Rosario folks seemed to be doing the foot work figure out how to
import computers and making contacts and meeting with groups who had
experience doing it in the past. Apparently getting computers imported in
to Argentina without customs duties is quite dificult.

in solidarity,
evan
