It can be done remotely, although it's more dificult. Another option is to
have everything shipped out of Portland instead of Oakland. The costs are
about the same. The only disadvantage is that freegeek doesn't have as
much space or a loading dock.

Unlike Ecuador, Argentina doesn't have a consolate in San Francisco so
there would be no difference on that account. All west cost activities go
through the Consolate in Los Angeles. On the plus side, the Argentine
Consolate is open 5 hours a day on weekdays, as opposed to the three hours
the Ecuadorian one is open. ;)

Josh if you want to coordinate the paperwork part, with help of course,
then i think it makes sense to try and have the container leave from
Portland. For the east coast of south america all containers are shipped
to either Houston or Miami via rail before being loaded on ships. It
doesn't matter if we load them on a train in Portland or Oakland.

If you have it leave from Portland you'll be able to get physical copies
of the Bill of Lading, write up a detailed inventory/manifest of goods in
the container, etc... The hard part is just getting the right paperwork
copied, faxed, and fedexed to the right office so they can give it the
proper stamps of approval. It's also important to know that all paperwork
needs to be signed off before the container is shipped. This means both
the US and Argentine end.... What i've yet to really figure out is how the
hell you're susposed to get the bill of lading signed off. See you don't
get it until you load up the container. But you need the consolates and
customs to sign off on it BEFORE the container is loaded and shipped. I
think there must be some way out of this logistical time travel, but i've
not found it yet.

So we have to find a way for freegeek to get paletts of computers, store
them, then load them in to the container when it arrives. Their space
didn't seem that big to me so i think we need to see if it's ok. Also i'm
a little worried about them not having a loading dock.
