i don't know much about it, but there's a wireless system called RONJA. it 
works with home-made light transmissor/receptor and is able to send 
information at 10Mbps full duplex 1km distance. it works with leds and 
fototransistors (ŋ?) to send/recieve light.
look for it on the web (try RONJA in google) there is a lot of informartion 
and seems interesting.
i understand nothing about it, but there might be some electrinic engeneer 
somewhere at indy network...
