Please give consideration to the forwarded "new imc" message.
They have no bandwidth...that's outside this list- bandwidth opop can address that.
They need computers to run an IMC. Seems they might be able to lever them into an income stream also. I for one see no problem there as long as it stays far from an elite situation (really really high prics), no different than nominal costs donations to come in and set through the weekly movies as here in seattle.
And looking to my own dreams of "what the hell is an IMC good for?" I can see real value in aiding the information infrastructure for an area in such turmoil. If we can contribute to civil society dialogue/ peacemaking works/ the defusing of possible nuclear conflagration.....
Which brings up the recent Kurdish journalists deligation to Seattle IMC. They got all excited about what we do for the South America IMC, they did not need 2 seconds to get the gears going before they could see the benefits of computers in the hands of civil society, unmoderated by entrenched powers, but directly serving the pragmatic concerns of the citizens.
Well, I think Kurdistan is a lkarger project than we are ready to take on- alone. If anyone wants to help me plot the strategy, find contacts to forward this one, lets talk off list.
I just wanted to share what is for me the greater possibility of this tech outreach. Getting people in control of the information they need to fix their corner of the globe. enabling civil society

IMC Kashmir
city:
Srinagar
state:
Jammu and kashmir
country:
India
resources:
We are a group of students working for the students (Youth) in the Indian held Kashmir located in South Asia. We work under Non Governmental Non Profitable Organisation named SPACE.
SPACE is an acronym for STUDENTS PLATFORM FOR ACQUIRING AND CONSOLIDATING EXPERIENCE. We have started on our own and have contributed from our own resources to set up an office base with a reasonalbly good collection of books where students from different colleges and districts conduct discussions, seminars and movie screening and activities like. We even don\'t have the computers in our office.Because
as of now we don\'t have any defined sources of income. The only hope is the people like you who may be willing to provide us every possible help so that the voice of youth in Kashmir doesn\'t remain unheard anymore.
Sir we are sorry to say that we cannot contribute anything in terms of server/bandwidth/technical skills. Yes often we can of course contribute in organising our own page.
We are looking forward from your side to provide us finance help in getting the the things done besides helping us to purchase the computers for our office.
Please do the needful as our voice needs a medium like IMC.
outreach:
Kashmir a nuclear flashpoint between India and Pakistan has been subjected to trauma by both the parties for last five decades and a half.
The area is divided by an imaginary cease fire line called Line of Control (LOC). One part ruled by Pakistan and the other by India. Within the Indian held Kashmir (officaily known as Jammu and Kashmir)we have three regions Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. (For a brief history of the dispute please send a request we will be pleased to let you know about it).
Since we are more focussed on the troubled Kashmir our group consists of boys and girls from all the district colleges of Kashmir. Though age is no criteria as our definitoin of Youth means \"Young at heart and thought\" we have also elderly persons in the group.
Besides in our group we have people from different faiths and communities of Kashmir.
To bring a more diversity in our group we have set no criteria for anybody other than a desire of making Kashmir a peaceful and a better place to live in.

introductory_statement:
Hi Sir/Madam
This part seems to be defing IMC for the IMC people. We were
introduced to Independet Media by one of the members
(Mr SANJAY BHANGAR) of local IMC members viz;bombay.imc.org.
After a thoughtful discussion within our group SPACE we have arrived a consensus that we despartately need a medium to voice our concerns about Kashmir besides highlighting the issues that the government controlled media dares not to raise. The media in Kashmir is either controlled by the govt and the local newspapers dare not to cover the facts because of the life threats by militants. In either case the objectivity or the voice of the common man gets either crushed or remains undisseminated.
We had planned to launch our own monthly magazine from SPACE but for the lack of resources and independent financing our wishes are still buried in our hearts.
Our last hope (hopefully won\'t be the lost one)is Indymedia.
We hope that you will provide us with the technical support besides helping us to raise the infra structure for setting up the base and daily updation of the page.
Please help us as far as you can, we will abide by all the commitments with Indymedia.
Thank You
Sincerely Yours
Sarwar Kashani
