I talked to Evan yesterday about the donation we were offered for free
shipment of a large quantity of equipment throughtout Brazil and he
suggested that I wrote again with details. Here it is.
We'll have lunch with this potential donor Thursday and we really would
like to know from the people involved in this project:
1) Since its virtually impossible to make a sizeable number of computers to
cross the border from Argentina to Brazil (due to taxes, laws and physical
distance), if it can be either done a separate shipment of computers to
Brazil or, if shipment to Argentina could be sent in a boat stopping first
at Santos port where container would be partially unlifted (not sure if its
doable) and then following to Buenos Aires.
2) If either of that can be done, we need information about the estimated
time when computers would be sent and we need information about the size of
container (so the donor can estimate his costs) - we also need information
of how many of the 200 computers could be sent to Brazil (Indymedia Sao
Paulo estimates 100 would be a good number considering the size of the
country and number of city collectives).
3) Finally, since deadline seems to be approaching we need information
about funding sources for international shipment, so we can discuss in the
IMC Brazil network about this in the short time is left.
