Nicolas,

I am sending your message on to the list imc-tech-solidarity, which
has dealt with this sort of thing in the past. I can't really say for
sure that they can help you, in fact I think it is a long shot, since
the last attempt at trying to organize computers to be donated to
another country has met with legal restrictions in terms of importing
(in fact *all* attempts have had this problem).

I wish we could find something for sure,

Subject: [IMC-Tech] computers needed

Dear all, I'm a co-ordinator with Indymedia South Africa
and now find myself having to issue a beggarly request to a
list I'm no member of. We're based in Johannesburg with an
NGO, Khanya College, at the premises of the Workers'
Library. Together with Khanya, we've initiated a community
IT centre where activists are able to access the web for
free. Today is the first operative day of the centre and
publicity of the service is slowly being pusheed out.

At present, the IT centre has just 7 machines and space for
12 more. Without wanting to sound too plaintive, we're
needing to find possible donors of computer hardware. You
probably receive such beggars all the time, so this request
may also be for ideas on obtaining equipment. Shipping
costs have already recommended that we cast around local
organisations for donations, but if there are possibilities
through the indymedia network, we'll gladly comply with
whatever processes are in place and answer queries.
