Hey Folks,
I'm coming into this conversation quite late. But Evan's proposal would be
good. Indymedia Chiapas and COMPPA (our popular communications coalition in
Mesoamerica) have been working quite closely with folks and projects in
Guatemala since the elections and the temporary IMC that was set up there in
Guatemala city. We were actually this minute finishing a meeting because we're
setting up the next of workshops for COMPPA in the Peten in Guatemala where
many of the Guatemala organizations that participated both in the Cancun IMC
and the Guatemala IMC (temp one to cover the elections) will be participating.
We'll be setting up a radio station, training, video, audio production, web,
web publication etc. It would be very esy for to distribute the computers and
assure that they are going to the communications centers that are getting
established, not just going out blindly. Those workshops will be the fist week
in March, there will people from Honduras (COPINH), Guate (Luciernaga, CIEP,
CPR, Comunicarte, Rights Action, Hijos, Community radio alliance and others
that are being defined now), Mexico (Maclovio Rojas - border in with tijuana
us, UCIZONI-Oaxaca, Radio Tupa, Radio Huave, Chiapas IMC, maybe Mexico City),
Prometheus in the states, and maybe a few other organizations. In the next two
weeks outlines, participants and other details should be defined. We would
certainly invite a few other bilingual techies to if people are interested.
So let us know what thoughts are about the shipment of computers, what we could
do to help put folks in contact with Guatemalan partner groups that could help
with logistics for receiving those computers etc....
Thanks again for considering our participation in this and please be in touch.
nos vemos en las calles del campo!!!
timo
ps...if there is need for a spanish version of this please let me know and I
will translate and send it to this same list. Sorry, my Portuguese is re-mal
un abrazo
