[IMC-Tech] categorization & editorial policy

so for a change I actually have some feedback. had a thought of, from an
interface point of view, how you could have the best of both worlds in
terms of categorization. what if you had immediately available the most
popular categories, with a full list available, but one click (or
whatever) off? this would allow for changing "issues of the day". for
example, in another month or two, the presidential election will hopefully
be old news, and could be moved down the list. of course this begs the
question what does most popular mean? over what period of time? mmmm,
details. but uh, that's my interesting idea.

oh, one other thing - in terms of people who don't read the email lists,
it would be really cool in general to have "what's going on on the email
lists" on the front page somewhere. totally reminds me of the
kernelnotes-style list summaries we were talking about recently. *shrug*
might be a nice middle ground.

In fact, students in Zimbabwe are studying the U.S. elections to
illustrate that electoral corruption and politics do not exist only in the
so called "third world".
