The BDC provides people of African descent working in
the documentary film
and video field with the opportunity to meet
socially; network
professionally; promote each others’ work and
exchange ideas in order to
generate productions. The BDC also advocates on issues
impacting Black
documentarians.
On Friday, February 9 at 6:00 pm, the meeting for
General BDC Members will
take place at NYU School for the Arts (the Tisch
Building), 721 Broadway, Rm.
006.
We will screen Edward Pinder’s MASTER TEACHER, an
emotional documentary which
followed a Harlem teacher over a school year. Although
it aired nationally
over ABC NIGHTLINE, we’re screening it because this
documentary has an
"independent" feel and in fact has an "independent"
origin. Pinder will be
present for Q&A.
If you have been approached by people who want to join
the BDC, you may
invite them to this meeting. Membership is open to
people of African descent
members from the New York metropolitan area engaged in
the production and/or
service of documentary film and video, including
students.
Please be prompt because we have much to discuss
before the screening: BDC
committees, recent ITVS session and proposal clinic,
updates on projects by
BDC members, discussion around the international film
festival project, and
update on proposals regarding the Black August
Collective.
