Hello

With this mail I am writing to all of you that want to volunteer with
uk indymedia but are based outside London and can not make it to our
local meetings - although you are very welcome, but we realise it is
not practical for everyone. So i would like to suggest other ways to
help out with this network.

As indymedia is continuously developing and there are not always
clearly defined jobs to do, just areas that need developing in the
way you feel you can contribute. At the moment there are around 30
people working quite regularly on the site in London doing general
local work like trainings and talks from day-to-day and coming
together when there is a big action on - that needs extra coverage.
We also try to work directly on set projects within sub-groups - so
far we have Technical, video, print, and
outreach/training/fundraising etc...

Other areas that need help:
- Front page - writing up reports
- Reasearching articles / issues
- More indepth articles for the World page
- Collating other stories from World imc's
- Technical help
- Distributing the 'offline' news sheet
- Spreading the idea of indymedia to local groups, letting them know
they can report their own actions, train them up on how to use the
front page.
- etc...

Decentralised Indymedia:
As a group we have always been uncomfortable with the idea that we
are 'representing' many cities and regions from London. Equally we
have a problem with any individual 'representing' a region and
therefore would encourage collectives to form all over, that can take
on the many tasks involved in running a localised IMC.

As there is a long backlog for setting up a new site (ie.
IMC-bristol) we would suggest that the UK site becomes a portal for
the many regions with separate pages run by local collectives and a
communal front page with the highlights. This would also mean that
one technical group (linked by e-mail) is needed to make sure the
site is running, etc.

So we would like to hear back from you - to see if you would like to
work remotely doing odd jobs where you feel you can or if you are
interested in forming a regional collective - we could put you
intouch with other volunteers in your area and other groups that are
associated with Indymedia like Undercurrents and Schnews etc (if you
haven't already), and show the group how to upload front page stories
for your region. We are still working on this technically and hope it
will be possible soon.

If you have any questions please e-mail me (above)
